Of course, I live in the Midwest — where false spring is practically a seasonal tradition.
The Midwest loves to give us a little weather treat… and then bam — remind us that yes, we do, in fact, live in the Midwest.
Last week we had sunshine. For more than one day. The temperature flirted with 60 degrees. A convertible was spotted with the top down. Shorts made an appearance. Coats were confidently returned to the closet. Snow started to melt.
Freedom was felt.
And then — wham. Cold. Gloomy. Snow back in the forecast.
False spring. A brief, beautiful taste of it.
You’d think once the snow melts and we’re back to clear pavement, it would be smooth sailing. After all, we survived snow-packed roads, ice, black ice (the sneakiest of them all), and the general anxiety that comes with winter driving in the Midwest.
But no.
Enter pothole season.
If you’ve ever driven through Midwest potholes in early spring, you know exactly what I mean. Midwest roads don’t just crack — they explode. Potholes appear overnight, daring you to choose between your suspension and the car riding your bumper. You can’t brake. You can’t swerve. Sometimes an entire lane just gives up entirely.
So, good luck out there this spring if you’re navigating Midwest potholes. Drive carefully.
And don’t worry — construction season is coming soon, so all the roads will be closed anyway. 🙂
